SIGNATURE: I definitely make my opinion of current R’n’B music known. I am really unimpressed by most of it and it makes me pessimistic for the future of my favourite music genre. However recently, a handful of veterans from the 1990s have decided to make a comeback. Brandy is one of the artists. A group who are making a return after an even longer break from the music world however is SWV. I was annoyed to find out that this track, the first single from their upcoming album (due on April 10th) has been floating about the Internet for over a month (it appeared just before Christmas). The track ‘Co-Sign’ is their first single since the classic ‘Rain’ (I used to rinse that song) in 1997. Instead of trying to impress the younger, ‘no attention-span’ generation, they stick to what they are best at, producing a bumping mid-tempo track that has a great, bass heavy beat. Produced by Lamb, it sounds like something in the vein of what Brian Alexander Morgan used to produce for the trio back in the mid 1990s, but it isn’t dated. I am really looking forward to the album, which will be released on Mass Appeal E1 Entertainment, an independent yet successful label. Which means that we can expect more of the same solid contemporary R’n’B material for which the girls are best known. That’s not to say that I hope that they don’t have a hit with this album. What’s more important though, is that they stay true to their sound, which is one that is timeless.  It’s been a long time coming, but ‘Co-Sign’ was worth the wait. I’m sure the album, ‘I Missed Us’ will be too. Cheers to Coko, Taj and Lelee for bringing good music back to the world.
